Israel to Test Self-Driving Public Bus Services
In an article published in the Times of Israel Ricky Ben-David reports about the four winning bids to launch autonomous bus projects in Israel in the framework of a 2-year pilot program.
Imagry, along with bus operator Nateev Express, received the go-ahead to start autonomous shuttle service in Israel’s largest medical facility, the Sheba Medical Center located in Ramat Gan.
The Israel Innovation Authority (IIA) will provide half the funding for the pilot while the Transportation Ministry’s National Public Transport Authority will build a dedicated, advanced regulatory framework, grant licensing, and supervise the project.
Government backing of the project will allow authorities to understand and support the infrastructure required to operate an autonomous public transport system as well as test the economic impact of autonomous public transportation. After successful completion of the two-year pilot Imagry will be offered contracts to expand its services in Israel.
Next stop, full autonomy!
