First Autonomous Shuttle Starts it Journey at Sheba
Bring out the 🍾! Today the first-ever autonomous bus in Israel has started its journey at the Sheba Tel HaShomer City of Health medical center, the largest medical center in the Middle East. Covering 200 square dunam, the center is visited by more than 50,000 people each day. The route, which includes 18 different bus stops, is 4.1 km in length and is located on mixed use roads (shared by other buses, taxis, private vehicles, ambulances, scooters, motorcycles, and pedestrians). The bus is based on the Imagry HD-mapless autonomous driving solution.
This pilot will showcase the efficacy of the Imagry solution, which is location-independent, hardware-agnostic, and self-sufficient. It includes several stages:
- Obtaining an L3 permit for driving with a safety driver without passengers on public roads via general bus safety testing as well as successful execution of NCAP scenarios
- Obtaining an L3 permit for driving with a safety driver with passengers on public roads, including cybersecurity Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA) and demonstration of acceptable passenger handling
- Obtaining an L4 permit for driving without the safety driver and with passengers, based on successful connection and operation of a Control Center, and 100,000 km of autonomous driving demonstrating system maturity and adequate safety levels
Autonomous driving (AD) in public transportation is projected to decrease the number of traffic accidents, reduce the use of fossil fuels, and improve social equality. Furthermore, AD will encourage more travelers to use public transportation.
We urge additional transportation operators to join the autonomous revolution. Partner with us for a fast, effective, and economical way to advance your fleet to the future of mobility.
Next stop, full autonomy!
